Mikel L. Moore


Mikel was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno and earned his law degree in 1983 from the Cornell Law School. For more than 31 years he has represented insured and self-insured clients in civil defense trial work. His primary clients include lawyers and law firms (in legal malpractice defense), ski areas and recreational providers (in personal injury defense) and the State of Montana (in civil defense). He also defends business clients in other matters, including employment claims.

He has tried numerous jury cases in state and federal courts in Montana, Wyoming and Arizona. He has briefed and argued dozens of appeals, including appeals in the Supreme Courts of three states (Montana, Wyoming and Arizona), and at least three federal Circuit Courts of Appeal (Ninth Circuit, Tenth Circuit and Federal Circuit).

After law school graduation, he worked for approximately 10 years with a Phoenix, Arizona law firm (maximum size 100+) where he was an associate for five years and a full partner for five years. He returned to Montana in March of 1993, where he joined an established Kalispell, Montana firm. In 1996, he became a founding member of Christensen, Moore & Cockrell, which, in 2012, became Moore, Cockrell, Goicoechea & Axelberg after founding member Dana Christensen became a United States District Court Judge.

Mikel and his wife Diane raised three children, all of whom are in or graduates of graduate or professional school. . Mikel and Diane spend their free time outdoors, in the mountains or on the lake.
